Iva Bittová

Iva Bittová is a Czech violinist whom I am deeply enamored. Soulful Avant-Garde par excellence.
A good starting point are her 1991 debut, and her collab with guitarist Vladimír Václavek.
For more, pop 'round to 'ere and 'ave a listen.

Amira Medunjanin - Rosa

To kick start what will hopefully blossom into a wealth of obscurios in this here blog, I will begin posting overlooked gems in the field of 'Ethnic' music. The Eastern Bloc (predominantly the former Yugoslavia) is an untapped wealth of such rarities, and unique music.

Amira Medunjanin is a Bosnian singer specialising in the traditional Bosnian genre of Sevdah (meaning bitterness and love at the same time). Songs are called sevdalinka (singular) or sevdalinke-plural. Her vocal acrobatics on this, her 2005 debut, are unparalleled in any other genre.
